Representatives from ALPHA education attended the Youth Nuclear Peace Summit to share their mission of fostering awareness and understanding of World War II history in Asia. At the summit, which aims to empower youth, engage them in the fight for nuclear disarmament, and provide them with the tools, knowledge, and platform to enact change and be an upstander for human rights and lasting peace, OHASSTA executive member Melissa Chan, alongside Eunice C. Der from the WongAvery Asia Pacific Peace Museum, presented.
Their presentation, The Atomic Bomb Through Many Voices, has recently been made available on YouTube. In it, they present a multi-perspective history of the atomic bomb through the stories of scientists, Congolese miners, and Korean survivors and they show how nuclear weapons were shaped by colonialism, militarism, and unequal power rather than by one nation or moment alone. Their talk explains why understanding many perspectives is essential to justice, memory, and nuclear disarmament.
