The Royal Ontario Museum is hosting the only Canadian stop of an international touring exhibition entitled “Auschwitz: Not Long Ago, Not Far Away” from January 10th to September 1st, 2025. The exhibition, co-produced by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Poland provides survivor testimonials, historical documentation and first-hand accounts to create a unique connection to over 500 original objects.
For educators, the ROM has augmented the exhibition with an educational program aimed to help students in grades 6-12 deepen their understanding of the Holocaust, identify bias and foster greater social cohesion. The ROM partnered with the Toronto Holocaust museum to ensure its program’s alignment with the Ontario curriculum.
In-person visits are divided by curriculum connections in grades 6-8 and 9-12 and both are free to Ontario schools until the end of June. For educators located further away from the ROM’s location in Toronto, a 60 minute virtual tour can be booked with a ROM Educator who will provide curriculum-aligned content, support challenging conversations and follow-up activities.
The exhibit’s website also offers many resources to better support your students when teaching about the Holocaust or if planning a visit.
