What’s even better than attending the OHASSTA conference? Sharing your perspective and experiences by hosting a personalized professional learning session! OHASSTA is now accepting professional learning session proposals from all history and social science educators across the province.

We are looking for sessions that:

  1. Are targeted to a wide range of grades (7-12), levels and courses in History, Economics, Law, Politics, and the Social Sciences. Nous recherchons particulièrement des ateliers en français.
  2. Are interactive, engaging and include opportunities to share learning and expertise.
  3. Focus on one of the following interconnected themes, while emphasizing pedagogy and learning that support improved student engagement and critical thinking:
    • Assessment and planning to support Subject Specific Thinking Concepts
    • Equity and Inclusive Education
    • Global competencies (modern learning) and Technological Innovation?
    • Critical Thinking and Inquiry
    • Ideas and resources, that teachers can use next week in their classes...

OHASSTA waives the conference fees for one presenter in each workshop.  If your workshop includes more than one presenter please make sure you indicate (on the form linked above) which presenter will be attending the conference for free.

 

 

 

 

We are at a new location this year in Ottawa at the Courtyard® by Marriott Ottawa East, conveniently
located just minutes from downtown and right off Highway 417, near the Ottawa Train Station, and offers
complimentary underground parking, high-speed Internet access, pool and fitness center.

OHASSTA Award Winner, Charlie Angus has been the Member of Parliament for Timmins-James Bay since 2004. He is the national caucus chair for the New Democratic Party. In 2011, CTV Power Play voted Angus one of the TOP THREE MPs of the year along with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the late Jack Layton. He has been voted Top Constituency MP in Canada and consistently voted among the most effective opposition MPs in the House of Commons. He has been active on many social issues including the fight for equal rights for First Nation children and a national palliative care strategy. He is the author of seven published books including the award-winning book Children of the Broken Treaty.

 

 

Dear Exhibitors

The Fall 2016 OHASSTA Conference is fast approaching. A host of high quality workshops should ensure our usual attendance of about 300 delegates. These delegates come from all parts of Ontario and represent the whole educational spectrum including classroom teachers, administrators, student teachers, professors and researchers.  I am taking this opportunity to invite your participation in OHASSTA’s 2016 Conference.

1. Dates and Location

This year, we will once again be hosting the conference at the Ottawa Conference and Event Center at 200 Coventry Road.  Please note the change in this year’s conference location as we are going to Ottawa. 

The date of this year’s conference is:

 Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th 2016

2. Cost

We will once again have a display area for all of our exhibitors. The cost of a standard display table is $727.50 plus H.S.T. (for a total of $822.08 per table).  Please note that this price includes the following: all coffee and refreshment breaks, as well as the set up and tear down cost incurred by the hotel, which includes two chairs, Wi-Fi, table dressings, and access to power.

All requests will be filled on a first come first served basis.  

4. Logistics

The publisher area will open at 10 am on Thursday morning. You will have the opportunity to set up your displays Thursday morning. Time has been set-aside on the Conference program specifically for viewing of your display by delegates. A tentative conference schedule will be mailed out with your invoice. 

Registration is based on a first come first serve basis. 

4. Shipping Materials

If you wish to have materials shipped to the hotel, please make separate arrangements with the hotel and you will be billed separately by the conference center for any additional audio-visual needs. 

5. Delegate Bag

OHASSTA would like to thank the Faculties of Education for their continued support and encourage student teachers to attend the 2016 conference. Student teachers will be charged a special reduced full conference fee of $85 that includes attendance at the conference workshops, an OHASSTA student membership, and admission to the country’s largest publishers’ display. Please note, this special rate now includes breakfast and lunch on Thursday November 3rd.

No registrations will be accepted after October 30th.
